In general, what's the average duration of a master cylinder and power booster. I've got 154,000 on my '92 and think it may be time for a change.
Also, any telltale signs that they are going? I'm starting to get a soft pedal and there are no visible leaks in the lines. The fluid level is also unchanged.
I'd like to know what it sounds like when it's going out as well. Mine seems to work fine, but i hear it when i'm at a stop light. Kindof a shhhhhhhhhhh sound coming form the master cylinder I think. Can't really explain it and it only does it when the break is totally pressed down. I haven't noticed any difference in breaking though, so i'll be waiting until I do to fix it.
hey science, yes if your getting a soft pedal, but it seems ok if you pump it, and pedal travel seems to have increased, but no signs of leaks, and fluid level is ok, you might have an internal leak in the master cyl. and you'll need to replace it, as for the booster, it either works or it doesn't, if it don't you'll have a hard pedal due to no power assist. there are a few other quirky problems that a booster can cause but mostly it either works (creates power brakes), or it doesn't ( you'll have manual brakes).
