On my 98 2wd ranger I'm taking the trans out and i CANNOT get the driveshaft bolts undone from where they go into the rear differential., they are 12mm 12 point and they just won't budge. I've tried an impact gun, air tools, I'm used my legs on a wrench. breaker bar......they wont budge.
are they left hand thread or something ?
These are the 4 bolts that hold the driveshaft to the rear differential.
The factory uses blue locktite sounds like someone may have used red locktite. I have had to use a cheater to get them loose before. You can heat up the flange where the bolt threads in that should help loosen it up just don't get carried away.
you have to be really careful with this. you and your wrenches are capable of delivering ALOT more torque than the differential is designed for and you can hurt it. it takes alot of patience and you just have to work at it. i have spent hours trying to get stubborn bolts loose. heat is the only thing that will breakdown corrosion and locktite. rust can be as strong as a weld. people up where my uncle lives keep trailer hitches on all winter and then in the spring they have to be physically cut off. salt and corrosion are a sob!
another thing is make sure you put that driveshaft on exactly how you took it off. if you dont have chalk, go out and buy some. you must line each bolt with the bolthole it came from on that flange, and if you disconnect any ujoints, or the slip joint, you MUST but it back exactly the way it goes or you will have a world of problems. i have overlooked these things and made the mistake.
