I have read about this before. It has happened to me before but I have Glow Plug Relay LED and it does not light up when this happens so that means it is a fault....If you really want to know if the GPR is coming on.Hook a wire up to the positive side and a LED in the cab and you will always know when the GPR is on.

riverrat is right. It cost around $5 to do the LED mod. Its real nice to have in the winter. And it will also help diagnose a problem if their ever is one. It can tell you if your problem is relay related or somewhere in the circuit after the relay.

There was a TSB or SSM out for this a while back. Ford says the cluster needs to be reprogrammed. It really isn't doing anything, just annoying. Mine does it occasionally so I bump the key to start while driving and it turns off. Of course, the starter won't engage in drive so nothing to worry about there.

The '02's and newer trucks have a coil icon that replaces the "wait to start" light on the dash.
