Question Radiator support question

Can anyone tell me what those black rubber/plastic "things" are in this picture circled in red. For lack of a better description they look like big rubber/plastic ears. They are held onto the radiator support with black plastic clips and are very flexible. I have looked all over the place and can't seem to figure out what they are and why they are there. I wasn;t as gentle as I could have been removing them....

Thanks!

well do they go around the tranny cooler or radiator at all. Maybe they help air flow or keep out rocks and dirt. on my f350 theres a little flap at the bottom of the support to pull air up into the radiator. Are you changing the one out of your truck, you could always compare it with other supports.

That's the outside (faces the grill) of the radiator support the radiator goes on the other side. I'm replacing the radiator support with a new one and the new one didn't come with those and I was trying to replace them but I don't know what they are. I have checked on the fordparts.com site but none of the illustrations show or list them.

They are to direct more air thru the radiator for better cooling

Thanks polarismuddman I have looked in LMC, NPD and the dealer so far no luck... don't think I will worry too much about them.

The bottom drivers side where it mounted to the frame was completely rotted out and since I had the motor out and it was in the garage figured I would take the time to put a new one in now rather than later.

ah, I see. When I was laying on my back installing my new steering box I looked up at mine and it didn 't look to good. Didn't touch it, was afraid it might fall apart. Good luck with the new one.
