I have only owned one truck with manual hubs. I dont know why everybody knocks the autos. When I got sucked into a snow filled ditch, I pulled my lever and backed out, no shoveling, no cold air, no aching back.

This I my first truck with auto hubs. I don't think I could go back.
Gotta love the prefix auto:

Auto-hubs, Auto-tranny, Auto-Ice maker, etc.

Lower mileage is a draw back, but in bad weather it is worth it. I have considered getting manual hubs and run in summer to see how much mpg's would improve. One vehicle I owned, I took the front drive shaft out every summer, carried in back with tools to install. I wouldnt mind having several spare sets sitting on the shelf, one day they will not be available.

I get 20 mpg with my truck. (16.5-17 mpg with winter fuel).

I don't see how auto hubs would affect fuel economy.

You should read the manual for the Ford auto hubs. If you disengage them nothing in the front drive-line moves. Thus no affect to fuel mileage.
