Loose steering wheel!?

When I grab a hold of my steering wheel and try to move it up and down (not using the tilt but as it would be for driving) the wheel has a slight slop feel to it. There is a little play. Anyone else have this?

warranty issue. I've heard of someone else on this board (rickatic maybe?) who had a steering box replaced. Mine has no play in the steering wheel... I'd take it to a dealer.

i think he meant *you* are the nut behind the wheel

it might not be that big of a deal... but you're under a full b2b warranty. might as well use it

If it makes you feel any better. Mine is going in tomorrow. If you hold the steering wheel straight it pulls to the left.

It may not be the exact same issue but mine does this as did my 1997 f150 when I got it new. (must be a first model year thing)

I looked at it with a tech for quite some time. He has been at the dealer for 20 years and I have had good luck with him in the past.

He said that they usually see that kind of behavior in 60,000+ mile trucks and that it's an issue with the collapsable steering linkage having play. He said that mine does it badly and he would be more than happy to replace it. The only issue is that he would replace it with the same design that may or may not have the issue and I don't want him taring up my brand new truck.

He said that this is the 3rd one (2011 model SD) that he has seen that is as bad. Im going to live with it and hope for a fix rather than replacing a flawed design with another flawed design.

Sounds like good logic to me. I will take it in Friday and go from there. Ford better fix this and it better not be the start of an unhealthy relationship. I will drive it through the dealers showroom and go back to Cummins.

Come on. All first model years have some kinks. : ).

All though buying a dodge isn't a bad idea. Get some of your tax money back
: )

That would be a shame. Not only because you would ruin the PSD but because you would switch to cummins as well.

Like he said. There are just little kinks. The 2011 is a BA truck. Hold on to it.

I have been happy so far. This is a little crazy though. This and the fact I am still waiting on my 2.5" DT hitch for this Class 5 receiver. There goes my fishing before the frozen ice. What a Fall for me lol. I'm not done with Ford......yet
