OT...Kinda
We have a 2002 dodge 2500 gas and it died while driving yesterday. Wouldn't start back so had it towed home. Battery has 12.5 volts to it and when we try to start it, it is like the battery just goes dead. put the multimeter on it and 12.5 volts when key off, when trying to start it voltage drops to 3.5. Traced the ground cable to the back of alternator and that negative cable isn't grounded. Is this the problem?

Does it look like it is supposed to be grounded and for some mysterious reason it isnt? If thats the case id ground it off and try. I mean you did trace a ground and found it wasnt grounded... thats my guess.

might be the batterys have a couple bad cells.
i had a red top with 3 dead cells and would still start the engine, but started it very slow, volts dropped down to 8.9 while cranking but would show 13.6 after

yes the ground comes off the battery and then splits into two ground cables. One grounds to the block and the other to the alternator. The on at the alternator isnt grounded
