Larger Tires

I poked around in here and found a little info, but I am trying to find out if I can use 33" tires on my 98 XLT. I have also ravished the Internet and have found a lot of useful info. What do they mean by "slight fender modifications"? I have considered a lift kit, but don't really feel like spending that much for one, but at least I know it would fit. Any one have any words of wisdom?

Bottomgun, I believe when they refer to "slight fender mods" they are stating that you may have to trim part of the fender somewhere so the tires do not rub when turning. A friend of mine had to trim the lower corners of the fender just outside the fender well in order to keep the wider/taller tires from rubbing at full turn. The larger tires may not rub with the wheel turned all the way to the right or left in a parked position, but when driving the vehicle, the body roll during a turn may cause the tire to rub the fender slightly. Normally a set of fender flares will cover any slight modifications that would be required. I myself would have a problem with taking a pair of tin snips and cutting my fenders so that a larger tire would fit. A lift kit would probably change the need for fender modifications unless you are using a set of tires that are drastically larger. Hope this is helpful.
