Grinding noise
I am hearing a granding noise in Fourth Gear. I have a 1979 F150 with a 302 2X4, that has a Manual Tranny. It is a 4 speed, 4th being OD. I was thinking Throw out bearing, but I have always heard those don't really need repaired until they are broken.
It also makes a similar noise when pressing in the clutch. It is less appearant when the truck is warm. (referring to grinding noise when pressing clutch in, not 4th gear)
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Timothy
Is the second noise there every time you push in the clutch with motor running? no matter what gear? If so, it sound like a throwout bearing to me too...

The fourth gear noise,
Yes at all speeds only while my foot is on the gas, if I take it off to clow down, but yet not brake, it goes away. No it is not hard to shift into 4th at all.
Second noise... Yes when truck is running and Yes, doesn't matter what gear!
