Tailgate Lock

Anyone using a tailgate lock to prevent scum from walking off (stealing) with your tailgate? I was thinking of one of these but can't find them locally and wanted opinions before ordering one from the net.

The ones you posted look kinda cheap, I've been thinking of getting this one though. Same company that makes the jimmi jammers.

I'd head down to your local aftermarket stereo shop, the kind that has 30" rims and 48" sub-woofers in the show room. You know the type. Them or possibly your local truck/auto aftermarket "stuff" dealer. I bought the type that is hooked into my door locks and worked from my key fob. When I locked or unlocked the doors the gate would lock/unlock along with them. A no-brainer and was about $100 installed.

I use a stock host clamp around the lower right hinge. I keep a socket in the glovebox if I need to take it off.

I also have a power lock, from pace Edwards, so the tailgate is locked most of the time.

The SDs come with a tailgate lock. Just keep it locked and you will be fine...

Lock

I keep my tailgate locked most the times but when hauling long wood, ladders, etc. and stopping somewhere, I am scared that my tailgate won't be there when I return from the store.

Thanks....

Lock

Future_LEO,

This appears to use an allen wrench to remove. Can you confirm?

Thanks...

Check out tuffy one of our sponsors here at the top of the page, they have a bracket you can screw on to prevent removal of the gate for about 20 or 30 dollars, and I also installed an electric lock that goes inside the gate, I forget the name brand, it just hooks to your door lock wire and works with your remote. If you have the gate with the step, it is a very expensive thing to replace.

It appears that way, yes. Most theives probably aren't carrying an allen wrench, if anything they will have a screw driver. Unless they carry a toolbag. Most criminal want an "in and out" type of theft. Why fiddle around with your tailgate with an allen wrench, when there is most likely another SD in the same parking lot without a lock that they can take off in 5 seconds?

You could also, probably replace that allen bolt with a locking bolt, which will require a special tool to unscrew. It would add another more security to it. Just something I thought of, and will probably do it when I decide to purchage the gate keeper.

Something like this. (If they fit that is)

go get a hose clamp, now.. put it on with the head pointing into the body with the gate open.

this will make the walkup and pull off problem go away.. they will have to work at it a few minutes..
