I noticed that some of you were talking about getting better gas milage with the tailgate down. Have any of you ever seen the Myth Buster show where they actually did this experiment? The Myth was busted - The truck actually got better gas milage with the tailgate up! That was a shocker for me!
Drew: "Yes I do know when she had her last tune-up, the day before our little $70 trip to Denver and Back." I feel your pain brother - I took my 69 on a 400 mile jaunt one day - filled up 3 timesj!!!! I didn't know you could through gas down an engine like this until I bought the 360! Its so stingy with the fuel

I looked at my wife while she was talking on the phone with her friend about MPG's, I told her when it comes down to MY truck.........your talking Miles Per Gallon, I'm talking Gallons Per Mile.
I did see that episode with the tailgate getting better mileage......but on a few things they have demonstrated in the automotive aspects of things, I've had a different prognosis on my own experiences, and to settle it, I can't drive with my tailgate down, I carry a LOT of stuff with me in the bed, and i'll risk dumping it all over the road.
Thanks Steve, I think she's by far the prettiest truck I've ever owned, she's nothing compared to most of the guys here, but to me, she's all mine lol.
Thanks again, I'm working my rear off to pay her off as quick as possible.

Good morning all, happy Thursday!
That's interesting George. I wonder if the tonneau cover on Black helps with mileage.

From the Mythbusters Web site:
Episode 43: Seasickness Cures, Finger in the Gun Barrel, Tailgate Gas Efficiency
The Test
After 300 miles there didn't appear to be much difference in the gas consumed, but after 500 miles Adam (tailgate down) ran out of gas. Jamie made it another 30 miles before he ran out of gas. This result was the exact opposite of the myth.
Water tunnel visualization
According to the experts, a circular pillow of air forms behind the cab of the truck when the tailgate is up. This "separated bubble"/"locked vortex flow" keep the faster moving air from contacting the truck, and thus reduces drag. With the tailgate down, the bubble breaks down and is no longer able to keep the fast moving air out, increasing drag.
In their scale model with the water tunnel, they were able to see that the increased drag. With the tailgate down, the particles in the water were dropping down and hitting the tailgate.

Good morning guys, happy day-before-Friday!
Sorry I'm late, I got caught up in a circular pillow of air that caused my separated bubble"/"locked vortex flow" to burst. This increased the drag on getting my lazy butt into work on time.
