Light surge

Over the weekend, while towing about 6k lbs on the highway, my truck developed a light surge/bucking at about 65mph. It was not doing it much, but I'm nuts and I notice anything strange with the truck. I'm thinking EGR?? Truck has about 70k on it. I have never replaced the EGR(it gets cleaned every 12k). No codes, no other symptoms. Hope its not an injector dropping on me. Truck is an 05 with everything listed below. Thanks...

This could be related to a couple of things. EGR is one EBP sensor is the other .

I did regualar cleaning of my EGR for the same symptoms, but my EGR Cooler decided to let go, and that made the EGR valve completely fill up with black gunk like I never ever cleaned it for 100 years in just a couple thousand miles.

If you're an '05 you may not have the EBP sensor if my memory serves me right, so you may have an EGR cooler going, and filling up your intake with thick, wet black soot like mine just did..... It's rather irritating when you take so much effort to clean the EGR valve.....

Truck does have EBP on it. I monitor everything thru my Edge Insight, ECT,EOT spread was never over 12 degrees. I'm gonna take EGR of later and see what she looks like.

Lol... Oil change was less than 1k miles ago. I never go over 4k miles on my oil.

Just asking, we have seen it all. The 6.0L likes clean correct oil, that will not shear, since the high pressure oil drives the injectors.

The surge at light throttle is common. EBP is one issue, you have none, I didn't see you were an 05. So, once I corrected the EBP on mine, and eliminated it as a problem, the next time I delt with surging is when the EGR cooler gave way, and totally stopped up the EGR Valve with thick black gunk, even with the butterfly flap removed (which I don't think an 05 has either - i think). I was shocked when I pulled my EGR out, which was brand new - with less than 5k on it, and it looked like I pulled it out of a truck with 400,000 hard unmaintained miles on it.

Not to say this is the case, but the other symptom associated with this condition was that it would not get out of it's own way taking off from a stop light, and then a big puff of black smoke, and vroom away we went....

Thanks for that info. I went ahead and replaced my EGR valve. I was a bit suprised at how crappy it looked. It was cleaned 10k miles ago. I did drive it for a short while but didn't feel anything. It was such a slight surge, it's gonna be tough to duplicate maybe. I don't know I'll keep you guys posted. As always thanks for the help Gents...

I had highway surge and it was the ICP sensor causing the problem.

Was it always doing it? Or somewhat intermitent? Don't really know if I corrected the issue yet. Only time will tell for me.
