I have decided after a lot of debate that I am going to go ahead and buy a 06' F250 6.0 PSD.
I'm waiting on the Oasis report right now, should be available in 24 hours or so. I will post it up in the thread or another.
I'm curious about the later 6.0 issues. This truck is stock, work edition. Never has been modified etc.
I want to know what I should have checked out, and what I should watch for after I have this truck in my possession. I have driven it, and it drives pretty nice.
from 05 and up they got the bugs worked out. if your gonna do anything like tunes your still gonna need to do something about the EGR and get headstuds.
If you leave it stock it will just need regular maintenance. My buddies 06 has gone 2 years and only needed a Glow plug controller.
More egr cooler issues in the later trucks then the earliest trucks. Less ICP issues on later trucks then the earliest. Same possibility on injector issues, headbolt issues, turbo issues regardless of year you buy depending on the maintenance the vehicle receives.
Awesome. The only things I plan on doing is putting 33" inch tires and front and rear Ranch hands on it. Besides that I am a fan of stock engines. K&N maybe... Maybe..
I just got done reading a lot about the EGR issue. Is there an after market part that can be put in to deplete this issue? I heard if it has EGR issues then its like a losing battle and a continuous faulty engine most of the time.
I'm hoping to see no EGR repairs in the Oasis report. Cross my fingers
There are Deletes for the EGR and there are aftermarket EGR's that are suppose to be better but most people just delete it. Rollerstud made a good point I forgot about the turbo issues can affect all years.

How much maintenance could you possibly do? Oil, Filters, Plugs, Etc.. A lot of people on here make it sound like maintenance on a diesel is on going?
Just need to keep on top of it, it is really important to not cheap out on oil or filters with these motors. The oil and fuel filters are especially important to get the proper filter to avoid issues. Oil changes on time all the time help longevity of fuel injectors.
The shorter answer would be what problems do they not have that the early ones had. I wouldn't touch it if it is out of warranty no matter what the OASIS says. They definitely did NOT get the bugs worked out by '05. Ours was maintained meticulously and still had all the known problems, turbo, oil cooler, injectors--two of which went out in under 10K miles the oil cooler waited until 60K.
Do yourself a favor and go to youtube a search 6.0 vs 7.3 and watch bill's 6 part videos. Bill helped Brang the world up to par on the 6.0. He knows his stuff and he has the engine tore down and showing you what he's talking about. The old low suffer had the biggesy inpack on egrs and turbo problems. If your running ultra and some additive then very faint chance of trouble. You can pull the egr valve and clean it.. If your buying the truck from a dealer drive it for a couple days. Put a load on it. Check the coolant before each run and if any comes up gone and there no pressure in the bottle cjeck tailpipe for coolant. Pressure in bottle means head gasket and coolany in tailpipe means clogged egr cooler.the egr is a componet so no if it ever had a problem it doesn't mean it was a bad engine. With all the upgrades of the engine I can't nelieve that they didn't change the head bolts. Go watch Bill's videos. He's truthful and hold back no punchs.
When your finish you will know just what your getting into.
