You can use either tranny. In either situation you need a flywheel and clutch setup for your 96 7.3L PSD. The floorpan just unbolts and you replace it with the floorpan from the manual. The 5 speed swap is very straight forward but the 6 speed requires a little more work. It just depends on your personal preference as to what you should do. I personally like the 6 speed better. Some say it isn't very different but I like the fact that the final drive gear isn't so low that you can run 4.10s and still be at a quite reasonable RPM range while still having a manual trans. It also has a tranny cooler although a few guys I've spoken with have just eliminated it altogether. There is a great write up on the 6 speed swap on PSN. I've got it somewhere. Either way it is achievable and really depends on what YOU want. I'm quite happy with my 5 speed.

would you be interested in selling that 6 spd? your drive shaft should still work fine with the 5 speed if i remeber right. im looking to do the swap too. pedals are probably the easiest.you can just swap them out. you the cabs were built to go either way so everything is the same. are you swaping the steering colum or just leaving it alone? its probably gunna take longer than a weekend unless you have a lift. it will be worth it though when its all done!

Everything from the '93 should swap over except the flywheel and clutch, you'll need those for a '96 (go with Valair and tell them Cody from Death Row Diesel sent you for a discount). Driveshafts will need to be altered or find some from a crew cab.
