no oil pressue when drivng

i have an 86 bronco 2 with a newly rebuilt motor in it. the oil pressure is good when idling but when i drive it down the road the oil pressure drops to nothing. turn the engine off for a nit then restart it and the oil pressure is fine again.

any ideas of what to check

Is it really losing oil press. or is it a failing guage? Try a mechanical gauge, the factory one is a glorified idiot light that is really only telling you there IS oil pressure, not really telling you how much.

Was the oil pump primed before firing?

I haven't had the chance yet to put a mechanical gauge on it yet but judging by the noise coming from the lifters i would say they are not getting any oil.

maybe take it to a garage and see what they have to say...a lot better than blowing your rebuilt engine. The oil pump on these sucks to change

spoke to a friend that's a mechanic. he said to check the pick up and the pan to make sure there isn't anything that could be blocking the flow. he also said it might be a spun bearing. really didn't get to speak to him for very long but if it was a spun bearing wouldn't it starve the motor of oil even at a idle

had a 91 ranger same problem, i ignored the gauge after an oil change. gauge wasn't lying, after i blew the motor, and disassembled it, found the pickup tube was clogged with what looked like little bity silicone boogers. mech told me it was a ford screw up cause they siliconed a gasket, claimed mine wasn't the first he'd seen
