Hi guys, new to this forum..Hello everyone..
I have a 1984 F150, 4.9 straight 6, 4 spd
Suddenly quit during heavy rain in my driveway.
Tried starting fluid into carb to determine if fuel or spark problem..
Replaced:
Pickup Coil...twice brand new
Ignition Control Module...distributor mounted...twice brand new
Primary Coil
Cap, Rotor, Wires, Plugs
.....
I have 12V at Primary Coil
Checked " spout " signal between Ignition Control Module and Powertrain Control Module..3.6Vac
Motor cranks strong...Just NO spark...
I do not know what to do next...
ANY suggestions????
Thanks...Tom
Did you check for spark at the coil wire or just assume it has no spark because it wont run on stating fluid?
Pulled #1 plug, grounded to block while cranking engine..
Also hooked up known good timing light to #1 plug (re-installed) while cranking..light never comes on...never picking up spark through magnetic pickup...
It could be a bad ecm, I was just looking at the wiring diagram at Autozone.com (all you have to do is register for free to get them) other than a bad connection somewhere thats all that's left.

Hi, Thanks for your continued interest..Just printed diagram from auto-zone..NOTE: mine is the TFI-IV system..not the Duraspark..
I do not see "ECM"
It's got to be the onboard computer....EEC-IV Module, or connection somewhere I have missed..
Keep you informed on progress....Tom
For those interested, Started checking grounds under the hood, moving inspecting wiring harness..very old and fragile, some wires with insulation breaking apart..went to the EEC-IV computer module under the dash, found only partial power to the 60 pin connector. Missing 12V on pins 37, 57. This comes from the EEC Power Relay. Pulled what I think is the EEC Power Relay, made a jumper to short, simulate contacts closed..Hit the key..Started Immediately!!!!!!!Whooo HOOO. Now the weird part...pulled the jumper off, Truck continued to run..maybe a little less RPM..Re-started the truck with Relay OUT??? Put Relay back in...ALL OK...Anyway Truck is now running and I believe I have isolated the problem to the EEC Power Relay or associated connector, wires..
Thanks to all who tried to Help me...Tom..
