possible enigne conversions

Gday form down under,
i bought a tidy 86 350 4x4 with an injected 5.0L and 4 speed. it had been repainted and its in real nice condition.
the only drama is i tow a 26ft boat and it lacks some *****, i used to tow it with a 97 250 with a powerstroke which did it easy just lack the front diff.
its probably been covered previously but what engine conversions are available for these old girls?
any help would be appreciated

F350's were never offered with a 5 liter here in the States.

I don't know exactly what was on offer 'down under'.
You seem to have had held onto the 335 series engines far longer than we did.

Given that you have the Windsor bell housing pattern the simplest alternative would be a 5.8 (351)

They have the 351c's down there with the nice smaller chamber heads. Australian heads used to be the hot swap over here for 351c which they quit making in 1973 in the US.

Who knows what a 5.0 is over there? I wonder could it be a smaller cleveland? How many bolts hold the valve covers down on your engine?

thanks for the replies.

its got a 302W in it, was thinking of going up to 351 either clevland or windsor. worst part about it is looking over your way at parts everything here is about twice the price, due to availability i guess.

any one want to post over a 351 over?? haha

would really like to do a big diesel swap either cummins or powerstroke but that seems like a big headache. any one done one?

Sure, it's been done.

There is a whole engine swap subforum here on FTE.

Haven't done a diesel swap, yet. Seriously contemplating a cummins swap in my 80 ford.
Powerstroke 7.3 is an awesome engine, and was used in this same chassis for a couple years. Prior to that, a 6.9 and 7.3 IDI (mechanical injection) were used, with the last year or so of the 7.3 sporting a turbo. Solid engines, in NA or turbo form. The NA can be turbo'd rather easily, as there are several full "kits" available.
