The original sending unit should work fine IF you install a voltage reducer to feed the guage. Are you using a voltage reducer to cut the guage supply voltage back to 6 volts?

So let me get this right. You have a 300 cu/in engine in your Bonus Built. It's converted to 12 volt, and you have eventually reinstalled the temp sending unit from the 226 flathead 6 onto the 300 right?

That's the right set up. But you need to add voltage reducers to all your original electric gauges (or one for all of them if you prefere that type) to compensate for the voltage increase.

WRT sending units, you have to use the one that has the proper resistance scale for the gauge - IOW you need to use the one supplied with that gauge.

Other can be installed or adapted but there's no reason at this point to confuse you with that process at this point.

Here's a link on installing the individual voltage reducers it's hsown on a 51/52 instrument panel, but it's exactly the same same process.

Ok well you have a few real simple possibilities. If the gauge and the sender are matched, they are properly installed with reducers, and properly wired then:

1. The gauge is not working right and needs to be replaced;
2. The sender is not working right and needs to be replaced;
3. Both the gauge and the sender are not working properly and need to be replaced;
or,
4. The gauge and the sender are both working properly and indicating what is really happening out in the engine.

There's no other altrenative!
