390 ticking

Motor ticks all the time except under a load at low rpms. I have tried to run tranny fluid in it (carb and oil) with no luck. I don't think the exhaust is leaking around the manifold. Where should I start? Should I shim the springs? Longer or shorter pushrods? New lifters? I just don't know, I never dealt with rocker arm shafts before. Thanks Ryan

Before you start replacing stuff you need to first identify where the "ticking" is coming from, then you might get some real help. Just saying "the engine" really isn't good enough. Get a mechanic's stethescope and pinpoint the location for us.

Thanks a lot. Every person I have talked to about the problem seems to think it's "normal" that a 390 ticks. The tranny fluid trick recommended by them was a disaster. I will try to pinpoint the problem and post back.
