I've been looking around for a good used or rebuilt C4 transmission for about a month now and not having much luck. Anybody have one or can suggest a source? I thought I could find one locally like on Criagslist or such but apparently they aren't very plentiful...in my neck of the woods anyway.
There seem to be plenty of C6 trannys around but no C4s. Would a C6 that was bolted to a 351 in a 79 Ford pickup fit an 85 302? Found one of those with 40K on it for $300 but prefer a C4...
Yeah, I saw that but I'd be leery of a transmission that has been sitting for 15 years...
Not sure about the C4 but if they are like the C6 it is a real easy rebuild. I got my C6 completely rebuilt less the torque converter for $325.00. Thats what they call a bench build. I already had it out and I installed it when they finished.

No Vern. A C-6 from a 79 Ford pickup would be behind a 351M, which has the big block style bellhousing. It won't fit a small block. My advice would be to be patient and wait for the right deal. I have friends that do trans work and they say the C-4 is super simple to work on and rebuild, fwiw.
Anyway...not to start any trouble or anything......
...but since I've got a couple of these just layin' around and I'm always
trippin' over 'em... I was tryin' to gather some info and so far this is one
of the largest collections of C4 stuff I've found...
I was origanally hoping to use an AOD in my '56 with the 3.89 gears I've
already purcased for the Franken-Nine rear...but just might "rollerize" one of these old C4's......
There is a LOT of really good stuff about C4's here...
Here is some transmission identifcation info also for the masses...
On the topic of transmissions,I've got a 351w and auto tranny that is out of a 83 F150. How do you tell the type of tranny it is and what other types will bolt up to it. Will an overdrive tranny bolt to it or would you need an adapter?
Maybe nothng but I've decided I'd rather put a transmission in that I know is good than take a chance on one I know nothing about and have to pull it back out. Besides, my rear end ratio is 3:08 so the AOD is not going to work that well in the truck even if it is good...
