sending unit
can anyone tell me how to remove the sending unit from my old gas tank? it is from a 82 f 100 - 16 gall- side mount. there are two rings with tabs sticking up from them. are they threaded do I tap them around with hammer chisel ? Im hopeing to reuse it in new tank. I checked old threads on this site but didnt see any on this issue any help would be great ! thanks in advance.

I would assume it's a similar setup as my 86. There's a lock ring that secures the sending unit to the tank and there is a rubber gasket inbetween the sending unit and tank. The lock ring is a like a big nut. You have to undo it from the tank. I did this by using a piece of scrap 2x4 and a hammer and hitting the tabs of the lockring counterclockwise until it slides around enough that is disengages from the tank and allows for the sending unit to be pulled out.
if the gasket or ring are not in good shape they should be replaced.
