Cool dash/running lights issues:-banghead

ok so my turn signals quit working about 5 or 6 days ago. i have found the problem just have not had time to fix them. so now about 2 days ago my damn dash lights started flickering very randomly and when they flicker so do my running/clearance lights. so no i am all kinds of stumped. i have replaced the headlight switch and still not fixed. although i can hear a light click noise when they do flicker on and off behind the dash but cannot seem to track it down. does any one have any ideas at all?

It could also be a short tripping the internal circuit breaker in the headlight switch.

ok cool i will look into that. the short tripping the internal circuit breaker sound very likely due to the fact that i have some other wires in the harness that re in very bad shape. and i am going to be replacing them this weekend as soon as i can. thanks guys. i let you know what i find out.

Welcome to the site. Sounds like it could possibly be a short somewhere that is randomly shorting out causing the lights to flicker. I'd look for badly spliced wires or wires where the coating is worn off and shorting out.

My guess is the quality of the headlight switch.

New from Asia doesn't mean it is any good

Use motorcraft switches if at all possible.

Borg/warner makes reliable quality switches as well.

Don't buy the cheapest asian stuff they push in the autopart stores. I have to agree with steponit.

I agree with all of the above either a short in the wiring or a bad ground somewhere.

Where are the grounds at on these and how many are there that could be bad?

There is a main dash ground that hooks to the dash metal.

There is a ground strap that is supposed to hook the firewall of the cab to the engine.

Make sure both are clean and tight.

There are over a dozen that could theoreticly be bad in various places on the truck.

ok another thing. I have replaced the headlight switch with a good one and still have the same clicking noise going on in my headlight switch an it also gets really hot. could it just be that the switch i got for it was bad also?

Check the wire for your gear shift indicator on the column. At some time in the life of my Bronco before I bought it someone had been in there and that wire was pinched. It finally shorted out (took 2 years) and your problems sound just like the PIA problems I went through.
