Ok so I posted a thread a few weeks ago but it was a combo thread about two different things. Now that I have had surgery and am laying on my back pondering ALOT I need more ideas of what this piece of metal out of my motor could be. It was stuck to the drain plug last oil change. No odd sounds or running rough or DTC's. Also IS it posssible to drop the pan with only undoing the motor mounts and lifting up on the motor. OR do i have to unbolt tranny so on and so fort. As always thank you all for the help and good wishes.
The only ints i have for you is its not aluminium on the account that it is magnetic.
That's what I was was thinking too.. I would trace the arc onto a piece of paper and then complete the circle to find the diameter..
You have to pull the engine to remove and replace the pan properly..

I had mine done at a dealer under warranty. I was told the mechanic pulled the motor mounts and slid the motor back to get the pan replaced. No leaks after 2 years. I read that you must flip the motor to do it properly so the special sealer used on the pan can cure.

Basically the tech took the risk. He got paid the full amount for R&R of the motor and flipping it around. If it worked, he profited. If it didn't, well.....
Actually, I think the issue is the oil. It COULD drip and cause problems. You can wipe it down or whatever but it would still be a gamble. I wouldn't myself and if the tech did that, I'd make damn sure it was put in writing that he'd be responsible for any leaks.
Nolan, it sure looks like a piece of bearing to me. Doesn't look thick enough to be part of a piston skirt, and the pistons are made of aluminum that wouldn't stick to a magnet.
As far as removing ther pan, I believe engine removal is the best way to go about it.
