I bought a 86 f150 4x4 with a 351 got it home and the next day it wont move forward. I dont alot about transmission by the way. Now it will go forward but only when I put the petal to the floor. Its full of fluid what should I check. Thanks
Presumably this is an automatic transmission you're talking about. If so, and the fluid level
looks good, I'd take it back and get your money back (you have 3 days after the sale to do
this).
If you are keeping the truck, I would see if it goes into any gear. If it does not, I would check the transfer case too. Check the outsides of everything and linkages first. If it all checks out, then you might drop the pan and check if the filter fell off or see if there is stuff in the pan.
It will go right into reverse and back up all day, but it will only go forward when i put the petal down to the floor and then it will run through 1st and 2nd but then it just does it again after I let off I have to floor it to get it to move again. If i stay on the throttle it works fine but if i let off to glide or stop I have to floor it to get moving again.
make sure the parking brake pedal is pulled all the way up. you may have to pull the release handle simultaneously. now take a hammer and go underneath the drivers side pickup bed just in front of the rear wheel. you'll see where the individual brake cables come from the rear wheels and join to a metal plate that gets pulled by the single cable that comes from the parking brake pedal. then lightly tap on it to see if it will return back. you may have to repeat the whole process a couple of times. this will buy you time till you can replace the parts. if this is not the problem, then at least you know the condition of your brake cables.
