i just picked up a 83 ranger.dont know what motor it is . i think 2.3 . blowing oil out of the hose for the pcv valve. my question is how do i line up the timming belt. so i can check that first and know where it goes back before i go farther. 83 ranger 4 cylinder air cond. auto matic. thanx
There are marks on the pulleys on 2.3s that will align at no.1 TDC when installing a timing belt. Oil blowing out the PCV can be either crankcase blow by or simply a bad PCV.
Engine could be a 2.0, but I have never seen a 2.0 backed by a auto trans.
i think i got the crank and cam figured out just got to figure the distributor drive out. and its blowing alot of oil, not a bad pcv, it sounds like it has a hole in a piston. how do i determine a 2.3 from a 2.0/
There should be a emissions sticker under the hood, otherwise it is listed in the VIN number.............They are damn near indistinguishable between the 2.
its a 2.3 by the vin#. A . if it s original who knows.the thing has a knock no power, and smokes and blows oil out like crazy. it seems like it was pooling oil out of 1,2 sparkplugs.valve cover gasket was tight so not from there. but if some one could tell me where to put the distributor drive pully i would be greatfull. yall have a good one.
it was #2 pston hole in it. maybe from water sitting in it ,it deiereated. who knows. but over all the engine is in good shape. still can see cross hatches. maybe this thing really does have only 40,000 miles on it. iguess the distrubutor drive pully just has to line up with something.
