Kinda interesting story, during infancy stage, still am, of salvage shopping found a 66 F250 and asked another picker if he knew what type of tranny it was, of course the first rule is alway believe fellow pickers. Excited and posted the find and how it involved lot of hard work. Believe it was Banjo Picker who mentioned he thought it likely the tranny was an FMX. Somewhat bummed but decided to post pic and majority of the members who responded felt it was a C6. Have pic of the tranny in my gallery, and there's also couple members comments. Until told differently it's a C6 and I am sticking to it, not familiar with the FMX but don't believe I would want to have one rebuilt.
C6 = 17 trans pan bolt holes, pan has a large notch in it, looks kinda like UT.
MX C-O-M = 14 trans pan bolt holes, pan is squarish w/a 2 inch "bumpout" on one side.
FMX introduced 1969, used in some Passenger Cars thru 1985 and in 1973/77 F350's w/a 300 I-6. The 14 bolt pan is squarish w/o the bumpout.
People confuse the FMX wih the MX, but if you go to a parts store to get a pan gasket and/or filter, be aware that these parts are specific to each trans.
John, if you were to take a poll on which A/T 1965/67 F100/350's w/FE engines (considering swaps) have now, the ratio of MX's to C6's would prolly be 15-1.
