Hey Steve good hearing from you, don't want to leave the wrong impression of us mountain folk. It was referred to 'jive' in the 30's, 'gage' in the 40's, and so on; anyhow, waiting to see the outcome of Ca's Prop 19, figure this ole timer can chuck the healthcare plan and save the state some money, heck with a 5 min. buzz won't remember what ails me. Think I will start a new trend and refer to it as a 'cocktail'. It was grown on a large scale in the early days of this country. They used it to make rope and fabric. They smoked it too. Bales of hemp were carried all over the country on open railroad cars, dropping seeds as they went. Even now you can find places like in Kansas where the now wild hemp plants grow tall along the tracks. People don't smoke it much because it came from strains developed for fiber rather than THC content.

When Steve gets around to comin' here, (we're goin' scroungin' when he does), maybe you can ride along...that is...if your backside can take 600 miles of 1959 F250 leaf springs.
Then all 3 of us can go to Hollyweird and have a Monte Cristo.

John, you gota be correct, although a few of us 390 owners effectionally refer to it as 'the gas hog' 10 mpg seems awfully low for that tranny. Got the shop manual out and intend reviewing the solonoid testing procedure, if too labor intensive it will present opportunity to install the C6 and auto steering column salvaged few yrs. ago. Thanks for the input.
My trucks gotta have an auto, I don't care for gear shifting, but if it had an OD it would have to work.

John, great idea but kinda getting excited about the thought of installing the C6, don't know what condition it's in so when time permits will have a shop take a look at it and get a quote to repair, now a matter of finding a reputable shop. When I get the quote I will have a pretty good idea what direction to go and will email Garbz if decide to stay with the 3sp o.d. Thanks for the input.

Googled after posting comments, talk about history. Ibuzzard has a cool truck and has the camper fixed up real nice. Don't think leaf springs will be an issue, heck I would crash in the back, however, this ole timers bladder is only good for 75 mi's and after the 3rd pit stop possibly find myself stranded somewhere along I-5. Don't see self headed south for next few months but does sound good and perhaps the threesome can hook up.

Don't know how many parts you have available. Get the one you have working and you may be able to sell it and have your C6 swap free or nearly.

This old timer (66) flew from LAX to De Gaulle airport in Paris, then to Tegel airport in Berlin, then rode in a cab to a hotel...and I still didn't have to go.
All this jazz took 18 hours. I've also flown from LAX to Heathrow in London several times, a 15 hour flight. No need to go. Wife sez I'm a camel!

Unless it was recently used, I wouldn't install a C6 without rebuild, about $700-800.00 on the east coast, drive shaft fitment another couple hundred.

Kinda interesting story, during infancy stage, still am, of salvage shopping found a 66 F250 and asked another picker if he knew what type of tranny it was, of course the first rule is alway believe fellow pickers. Excited and posted the find and how it involved lot of hard work. Believe it was Banjo Picker who mentioned he thought it likely the tranny was an FMX. Somewhat bummed but decided to post pic and majority of the members who responded felt it was a C6. Have pic of the tranny in my gallery, and there's also couple members comments. Until told differently it's a C6 and I am sticking to it, not familiar with the FMX but don't believe I would want to have one rebuilt.
