no such thing, theres one where the inner filter is able to be changed and you keep the housing but its not worth it. its more for guys who race so they can inspect the materials in the filter.
I think you are talking about the spin on oil filters that come apart and have a super fine mesh stainless steel screen and washable air filters like K&N I would not use either of these on my truck but that is just me.
If you're referring to K&N air filters, I have one that fits my IDI on a shelf collecting dust in my garage. I think it collects dust better in my garage than installed in my truck.
the metal oil filters filter down to 30 microns, normal paper filters down to 20. amsoil has special ones that go to 10 i believe. the larger number passes bigger materials.
i cant stand k and n air filters. seen too many engines ruined with them.
100% filtration THROUGH deep pleated, two ply, Stainless Steel Filter Media. Improved debris removal (Testing at SwRI showed a 90% Improvement in Particle Removal over paper "throw away" filters). Easy to clean (hot soapy water). No modifications are required. Installation of the filter takes less than 5 minutes.
I have not used a cleanable oil filter but only because of the price. The one above is $499. I know there are some very good cleanable filters on the market, K&N isn't even close.
Dad had what he called a spinner oil filter on his 60 series Detroit along with the regular filter. Detroit wanted to a test with the spinner, mobil 1 synthetic and just changing the regular oil filter at 25,000 miles, add makeup oil.
Detroit tore the engine down at 175,000 miles. Result was unmeasurable wear! Engine put back together (don't know what parts reused or replaced) and the same oil change strategy. Last I knew the engine had close to 700,000 and still running good.
This was at least 14 yrs ago, I'm sure there are refinements and other ideas by now. I haven't taken time to look.

amsoils actually have ones that go as low as 2 micron.

looks cool, but you couldnt pay me enough to trust one.

do they make one of these special filters that will fit our trucks?
i have tried to get motorcrafts FL-1995 filter on my truck and i cant seem to clear the oil pan and get it to spin on... don't know why..... im now using FL-784 what micron rating are they?
it's their bypass filter. Your oil would be crystal clear but you'd have to change it often (3k or so) and they are 35 bucks each. I run their 15 micron and their 2 micron 10% flow on mine.

thats the first time iv heard of this problem.
are you sure your not just hitting a fuel,or brake line or something?
(i guess it's the brake line mine rubs against a little.i can't remember where the stock fuel line ran.it must have been right around there too.)
no not talking about air filters. fuel filters from XX- fuel uses twin filters to get a final of 2 micron rating. Finally i've built paint spraying systems that ran at 900psi and used reuseable filter medias so guess you could aways build something, but probally not worth the cost of any of it. Thanks for your replies.
no it seems like the filter head is tilted inwards a little and the bottom of the long powerstroke filter hits the oil pan i could have tried a little harder but was thinking maybe there was a trick to it i wasnt aware of and i didnt want to risk cross threading
