1966 f250 project has started!

well saturday my f250(i thought it was a f100) just got delivered, ive been working so i havent been able to really drive it much! last time i saw this truck was about 4 years ago, and she hasnt aged well. suprisingly fust free for the most part! the major flaws are with all the plastic emblems on it! i assume that this is a common occurance due to the old age! must of this stuff is OEM, problem areas

interior problems
interior is rough! i hate the stiff a$$ bench seat, its the stock one form factory. the dash guages dont work due to the engine ant transmssion not being original, the temp and oil pressure ones work! the vyl floor mats are brittle and breaking apart. the doors and trim are in bad shape and all the door seals have dry rotted away for the most part, bassicly the interior need sto be re done from sctchand the window need to be replaced and resealed

motor issues, trans issues
well its the tried and classic 359 hd engine with a 4 speed and 3 waybrowning back box the motor its self is pretty much rock solid. its got some problems with the carb, 2brrl 500cfm holley. as far as i can tell its running rich and a friend and i have played with the AFR setting on the back with no real progress, the vacum advance seems to not be working. the cluthc in the 4speed is nearly gone, with less that 1/16 of pad left, having difficulties getting it to go into gear. it sounds like the truck engine is going 300mph when u are going 5, but thats due to the 4speed and not the engines fault, when u try to go to 1/2 throttle or pin the throttle to fast the carb kinda burps a bit before she wants to go! im no carb expert but, i was thinking the accelarator pump or with the jetting in the carb due to the change in alttitude from 150 feet above sea level to 4500 feet, or possiblely due to the vacum advance not working as well,
going to gut the whole engine and stuff a 460 in there with a c6 auto in the plans now!

differential issues
theres no real problem hear, im just guessing its low speed towing axles and gearing, wana rebuild it with a LSD 4:10 or some real good highway gearing!

brakes,
its just hydraulic so it sucks, deffinately want to get a vacum boosted brakes, if possible,

paint and body
will definately need some dent repair, losts of bondo and it kinda appears as if the bed is sagging a bit im not shure it may just appear to be, the frames in tact and no visible damage to any of the mounts. ill find that out soon!!

suspension
no powersteering oh well! but it feels like im riding in tramp-o-line, with those 2 ton springs in it!!

thats about it!!!! sorry for the long book!

Interior stuff is all re-popped these Days...Dennis Carpenters (D.C) site. Rubber floor replacment-about $120 (measure the tranny hump height-two models avail.), Door anti-rattles/vent window seals-around $280 (do them together).Benches can be re-covered for under $300. The rest of the interior is elbow grease. If your door interior trim is missing or messed up, they are not re-popped. Look on Ebay...they'll cost ya! Inserts are re-done though-D.C about $100.

If the steering wheel is toast, D.C does a re-pop for $200, but I'd repair it yourself with a West-Marine Epoxy kit ($50). Door seals, again, go to D.C. For the Diff., I'd be looking more in the 3.73 to 3.50 range for good road gearing. Anything from 67-72 bolts up...look at Camper Special wrecks, they usually have good road gearing....just have to get a u-joint conversion.
As far as posting images...not sure. My advice is become a supporter of the site...cheap yearly charge.

There are two methods, 1st you should be able to create a album or garage through the USER CP up on the blue bar. 2nd Upload your photos to a free hosting site and copy the photo url and paste it here or use the insert image in the message box tool bar.

The only Ford trucks that came with a 'tried and classic' 359 FT engine (which is nothing more than a detuned for emission 361 FT) were 1975/78 F600 and larger trucks.

No F100/250 came with FT engines, the only F350 that came with an FT engine were 1973/78 F350's made especially for U-Haul by Ford which came with the 330 H/D FT engine.

well thats what got stuffed in there, its a extremly tight fit for that engine, u can see the emblem on the driver side of the valve cover 359 hd and it was pulled from a uhaul, and its got u haul stickered as well on the cover! this engine has got over 400,000 miles on it, its been in there sense the early 80's when grandfather was hauling in scrap engines and transmissions! i mean no disrespect to this engine, its lasted a hell of along time and its jut time to retire her, to make way for a more higher turning engine, with a bit more giddy up in it!! with that 4 speed muncie thats in and that browning its just not practical to drive around i mean your always shifting its a real pain and they dont alyways wana coopperate!!
lookin forward to gettin started on the engine and drive line in a few weeks as it stands right now im going to be building a 460 stroked out to a 532 and ill be putting my paxton on top of that with either a huge 1100 card as was suggested by another member or a one of the FAST TBI injection kits! ill be checkin in to that real soon! or if any ones got a better recipe for power im open for options!
