Help - Thump on bumps
All,
My wife's 2000 Expedition has a dull thumping sound coming from the rear passenger side floor area.
My first thought was the exhaust system, but nothing is loose there - all rubber hangers a-ok; no pipe or shield problem or parts contact.
I checked all the bushings, shocks, mounts, etc. Fuel tank mount, spare, etc... Nothing appears loose. Seems to happen on the suspension compression downside, just after hitting a bump.
Jumping up and down on the step doesn't bring out the problem (235lbs).
Of course, something is causing this problem - I just haven't figured it out yet. Any help/wisdom appreciated. I can pay in beer!

I was gona suggest running board, but i think you would have found that when you jumped up and down on it. Could it be the jump seat behind the passenger not latching tight? Thats my only other guess.

Check your jack inside the rear corner and make sure it is tight.
Check the rear sway bar link where it connects to the sway bar. Make sure it is tight. You might not be able to move the link but if the bolt is loose this will make a clunking noise on bumps. Hope this helps ya.

I had the same problem on my '99. I found the bolt on the bottom of the shock was a little undersized.
It was 13mm and I put in 1/2" and the problem was gone. I laid under the truck and pushed up on the body and I could see this problem. It might be worth checking out because those noises can drive ya nuts.

I had the same problem on my '03, got under it shook a bunch of stuff, and nothing.
Finally realized it was the trailer hitch receiver. I always keep it on mine so if you decide to hit me you get a "bonus".
If you have it on yours it might be something to look at!
