I changed my glow plugs a month ago or so, but recently did orings too. I assumed because I have 8 new GP, new valve cover gaskets and new harnesses, I could rule that out. And my volt meter drops when I get the WTS light, so I assumed my GPR was fine also.
I still get a decent amount of white smoke on start up (temp around 32-35), and even after 10min of warm up, it smoked for 2-3 min of driving before it cleared up.
Could the GPR be worn, and not sending enough amps to the GP's? So it seems it works, but not to spec?
yes the Glow plug relay could be needing replaced. Measure the two posts in the morning while the truck has sat over night and see if there is much difference betwwen the two large posts on the GPR once the key is turned on.
I measured this morning, so when I turn ignition on and measure with meter between source voltage I get 11.8V, and measure to the GP voltage I get 10V. I'm guessing that drop means poor contact in the GPR, so I should replace.
Will order one up. It starts OK like this, just smokes. and the smoke continues for about 20 sec of driving.
