Hey guys, I'm new here on FTE. I really hope I can get some great recommendations on what I should do to customize my '03 Expedition XLT. I have been confused on whether I should get rid of my Expy and get something else but I have yet to find a car cheap enough to buy. That being said, I think I'll keep the "Turd Tank" as I call it (4.6L V8 so it basically drives like a tank and it's brown like a turd). I don't want to keep it stock though. I'm 19 with very low budget and lots of connections to create something if need be. If you guys have any original ideas at all, let me know.
Thanks so much guys. I'll post pictures soon on here to show you what I'm working with right now.
Put on some wheels and tire or get a paint job that will help alot then work with some armor all and it will work wonders. Maybe do a k&n filter to get some more power and put in a system or just a new radio.
first thing i allways do is add HIDs to any truck i have. come LED taillights would be a nice add also. wheels and tires, painting to match or 2tone..ect ect theres alot you can do.
Do not waste your money trying to "customize" a brown 4.6 Expy. You are 19, there must be other ways you can spend your money. Modifications to the Expy will only make it harder to sell later, and it will never be a cool car not matter what you do. My advice is to drive it like it is, save your money, buy something worth modifying later if you must.
Here are some pictures I have of my car when I got it in '08. I'll take some updated ones soon.
And thanks for the ideas so far guys. I appreciate your input. Still kinda deciding between new headlights or saving up for rims. I think the headlights would be a decent addition NOW rather than the rims LATER. Problem with that is, I don't know when I would have the money to buy the rims. Most likely, I'll follow what you said Alaska.

I understand what you are saying and I respect your opinion but there really is nothing else out here. I love driving my expy and I will probably keep on driving it until it just flat out quits on me and I can't repair it any more. By then I'll have enough money stored up to get another car but I really don't want to be stuck with the stock look forever. I'm not looking to make it "cool" per se, but just a different look than all the other Expys out there.
Haha, I must say 402, I'm quite jealous of what you did to the '99. Any word on the Audio system yet thats going in?
I really wanted a 03-06 Expey but I've had this truck since new and its always been a good truck to me, so I figured I'd give it a new lease on life. Anyways we're going to either use RockFord or Pioneer speakers. Apioneer Nav head unit for sure. I'm also going to build a custom enclosure in the rear since I won't be using the 3rd anymore. I'm looking for more of an understated look then just throwing 10 TV's in there. The truck is going to be used as a good weather DD and a shop show truck so whatever I do its has to be nice. I'm actually going to start the rough build on the enclosures this week. I will of course add those photos to the build site.
Very nice. I like where you are going with it. I don't use my 3rd row anymore either. I plan on going camping sometime in November and transporting my buddies. We might do a little mudding if we can find someplace to do. Living in Florida and it being as dry as it is, there are very few spots to have "outdoor fun."
Just for the reason that there is no place to offroad where I live in Florida and the Expy isn't 4X4, only 2 wheel. I would much rather just keep it street tires and possibly some larger rims. Not 24's, but something definitely larger than what I have on there right now.
Everything is good running condition? Does it need a plug change, COPs, fuel filter, etc? I'd put my money into making sure all the maintenance stuff is up to date before changing anything. There is nothing I hate to see more than a vehicle with aftermarket wheels, sound system, etc that couldn't pass a safety/emission inspection.
