Transmission help!
It's a 1987 F-250 XLT Lariat, Ext. cab 4WD 3-speed auto with the 6.9L diesel.
Last year coming home from work, the rear U-joint on the front drive shaft broke, sending the drive shaft flying around smashing everything like a huge spinning hammer.
Ripped a huge hole in the transfer case, bent the shift linkage, ripped out all wires running to the rear of the truck, and dented the transmission pan.
Fixed all of that (Except the fuel gauges, can't seem to trace those yet but that's another problem for another day) I did not know at first that the transmission pan was dented and slightly leaking until one day the transmission started slipping slightly. I checked the fluid, and had to add some. After that I had to add a bit every day until I was able to fix it that weekend.
Truck has been fine all summer, but hasn't been driven much because I have my little sunny day car. Well, last night my car left me stranded in a parking lot.
Got a lift to my shop to get my truck, was going to throw my car on a trailer and ger it to my shop.
Fired the truck up, threw it into reverse, nothing. All gears gone, grinds into park. Check the linkage, is moving freely. Checked the fluid, perfect.
I have two questions.
Is my transmission gone, or maybe it's a simple fix?
Which transmission do I have? C6 maybe?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as I have work tomorrow morning and zero cars to get there.
Thanks!
Allow truck idle trans in neutral, put the tc in gear making sure you feel the proper clicks, then put the trans in park.
