I actually just came in from having started it for the 1st time in 3-4 months. Man, that engine rattle sounds bad. Should have shot a quick video.
I bet the 12V Cummins will be quieter than the 300 is now. Good oil pressure, leads me to believe it's got either a wrist pin or piston skirt issue.
It has a tire that went flat while sitting, but I'm gonna swap it for the spare. It really needs new rear tires anyways. I'm hoping to score a set of factory alloy "bullet hole" wheels to put on it, as I'm quite bored of the white "wagon wheels" that have been on it for decades, and they are starting to have bead sealing issues due to rust.

Drained the oil from Darth today, and on the advice of a friend who used to build a lot of marine engines, poured about 6 qts. of diesel fuel in and am letting it sit. I have been dealing with what seems to be a clogged intake screen for the oil pump. I did take a nice little dummy distributor someone made me and use it to spin the oil pump both forwards and backwards with the cooler inlet hose disconnected. I then connected it back, but left the return hose off and flushed the cooler.

Tomorrow, after it stands overnight, I will see what comes out of the pan drain.

So, the "nice little dummy distributor" worked w/o problems?

I can't say I did anything exciting with my truck today but I did unload the firewood I collected yesterday and changed the oil.

Mario thats a great lookin truck. Just when I thought I was done with my 85, I scored a deal on a D60 for $300 that had a recent rebuild with all new axle shafts and everythin. Someone stole the passenger lockout but thats no biggy.

They were just hanging there vibrating before. Pretty snug now.

Looking good!

Thanks! it's been wire wheeled the best I could, converted and sealed. Should hold the rust off for a long time now.

Yes it did. I took the precaution of oiling the shaft upper bushing before I used it. Thanks

Yesterday I went to get my truck out of storage from my grandma's place in northern MN, my dad was there also, and we needed to bring some junk to the county dump. Since my truck was parked in front of the trailer in the garage, I said we should just hook it to my truck, so we did.

Pulled it no problem, despite having 3.08 gears.

Drove it 120 miles home today, it was pouring rain 3/4 of the way, only problem was I found out my wiper blades were shot, so I stopped to buy new ones at the beginning of the trip.

Continuing from yesterday I reflushed both directions on the oil pan to cooler inlet circuit then continued with my oil change. Here are some pictures of the oil filter adapter and cooler lines for anyone interested. There is also a picture of the oil pump priming tool Gary Lewis made that will fit 335 and 385 series engines and maybe a 351W. On the picture through the frame opening you can see the fitting and part of the supply hose to the cooler.

Did some test fitting of the accessory brackets this afternoon, still have a few things left to paint. Despite marking and bagging bolts, I still managed to lose track of a few bolts as I found out today, so now I need to find a few more. I would like to do something about the alternator bracket, I took the smog pump off a long time ago and don't plan to ever use one again.
