Got the correct fitting. It took the first parts guy 20 minutes to find the wrong one, and the second parts guy 1 minute to find the right one. Go figure..

New choke heater tube is installed and looking good. Just need to deal with a couple of EVAP vacuum lines and it's on to testing and tuning!

Well, the PLAN is to finish it up tomorrow evening when I get up. I'll get the test drive in on Tuesday and make any needed adjustments. Hopefully, things will go smooth and it will be back on the road by Wednesday.

It's been a longer process than I planned, given my schedule and unexpected issues. To date:

New Carburetor (National #1506)
DUI Distributor / Curved for no egr
EGR Removed / Blocked
Live Wires spark plug cables
Autolite Platinum Plugs
Ignition Relay to provide full power to distributor
Computer / Harness Removed
Gauges reconfigured
EVAP converted to Vacuum Control
SMOG pump deleted and exhaust AIR pipe removed and welded up
New Choke Heater tube fabricated and installed
New Throttle cable installed
Valve cover removed, painted, new valve cover gasket
Air cleaner removed, painted, new element, new heat riser tube
All new vacuum hoses
New firewall grommet
New wiring looms (covers) (Ford Blue...)

Issues that came up:

Broken throttle cable
Incorrect choke heat tube fittings
Power issues to DUI distributor
No timing marks (ended up located TDC and making my own. Timed via vacuum)
Lost socket (still in the fender somewhere.. I've made it my mission to retrieve it!)

Started this whole thing on Dec 18. Thanks to issues, schedules and lack of motivation on some days, it's taken just short of a month.

Can't wait to get it back on the road and then get to work on cosmetic issues..

Pics will follow in a day or two..

Work for Today:
Oil Change
Air filter
general inspection
removed the bench for cleaning
re-installed the bench after vacuuming

Got the truck yesterday, so not a lot has been done yet.

I need to clean under the bench seat. When removing the computer I saw an entire museum of artifacts under there.. One more project..

Great..

I recently changed the seat in my truck. I've owned it for 16+ years. When I got it, it had been cleaned out under there quite well, though they did (somehow) miss the reciept for the engine rebuild which totaled ~$300 more than I paid for the whole truck......
Yet, it was unbelievable as to what I found under the old seat..... Guess that can happen over time.

Actually took a look at my battery cables today. Positive and negative battery cables are junk, but the starter wire looks great. Looks like I'll just replace the two battery cables.

Drove it to Newport News and back to meet with the people my insurance company sent to take care of water damage from a frozen pipe last week. While I was there I picked up my powertrain support fixture so I can replace a motor mount and leaking oil pan gasket on wife's cousin's Lumina.

I went to start mine this morning, and was greeted with the familiar "BUZZZZZZZZZ" from the solenoid. Not sure if bad battery, or bad connection. Drove the little truck, and it was dark time I got home. Might pull the battery out and take it with me to put on a charger, and see if it has any life left. Kinda doubt it, since it is a "Never Start" from wally world, and is ~5 years old........

I've got one of those (made by Exide IIRC) that I got in 2005, it has just this winter started showing signs its useful life is ending. Say what you will, but I've had good experiences with that battery..
