Rusted hood
The problem I have is that I can see that the inside of the hood is also rusting between the outside metal and the stiffening metal that helps the hood keep it's shape. It's impossible to get to this area with any tools without cutting the inside portion of the hood. Any brilliant solutions to getting this rust neutralized/removed and how would I paint it once I get the rust handled?
I used a sand blaster and removed everything down to bare metal then used phosporic acid (Prime and Prep from home depot for $6/qt) It's a light green liquid like water and I sprayed it EVERYWHERE with several coats.
I then scuffed and cleaned it and primered it.
I wouldn't have done this much work on such a crappy hood but I couldn't find any better.
I got a cherry hood from a junk yard for $75 that I used on my 73, you should be able to find one for about that price and it'll be a lot less work.
If you have any surface rust, you should strip the whole thing, I found quite a few rust spots BELOW the paint.
