I recently picked up a mostly rebuilt 71-72 F250 full-float rear D60 axle. I'm planning on putting it in my '91 along with a D60 up front whenever I find one with a decent price tag on it.
It looks like it's 16 spline (I think), I'd like to run and E-locker or true-trac but, it seems only full lockers come for the 16 spline rear 60s. Can I upgrade to 30 spline? (full lockers don't do well on ice, fyi)
If so, does anyone know axle shaft length?
Thanks, Now I also have to increase the spring perch width.
The 72 and earlyer axles are narower than all other d60s. I'm not shure of the numbers but it's a good bit. I wouldn't even try to work with it. Just go get a rear with the right parts you need to build the axle you want. By the time you get shafts that will fit an aftermarket carior you could have got a whole rear.
Where are you located. If your neer me I can get you a d60 for $60
Yea, thanks. Already found a matching set off a '89 F350, complete hub to hub, even still got wheels on them.
Not sure what the rear is yet though, I'm gonna go take alook at them and hopefully pick em up next weekend. Hell of alot more than $60 bucks though for that front D60.
My location in is the upper right of all my posts man, where are you?
did you screw up your 91 rear end? since about 76+ ford used d 70, ford 10.25inch or equivelant "1 ton". if you want a d 60 for strength you will actually be down grading *granted the d60 is uber strong but it is still a down grade from the d70's level* if it is just that you want a locker they make lockers for what was stock under your truck any way.

Check out my sig man, I have a 1/2 ton F150 that I'm upgrading. Any thing over the 8.8 is an upgrade. I'm bulding an 3/4-1 ton truck underneath a F150 body and frame.
