Exclamation 6.7 aluminum heads

Is there any info about this cast-iron motor with aluminum heads. I am a long time mechanic and no manufacturer that I know of has successfuly used this combo in a gas engine let alone a diesel.

Like JReinert said, the Duramax in the GM trucks has been using this combo with great success since I believe 2001. I'm not sure where you got your info that no manufacturer has even used aluminum heads on a gas block with any success. I would bet that well over 50% of automotive gas motors in production today use aluminum heads.

Maybe Navistar could have been more successful with the 6.0 if they had used an all aluminum head instead of an iron head with the head bolts clamping down on top of an aluminum rocker carrier!

In my old Hot Rod days. Aluminum heads were very popular on the flat head ford V-8's.

All of the Ford 5.4 gassers have aluminum alloy heads and have used them for years.

It is probably close to correct that many gas engines have aluminum heads I can,t say that they are successful if it requires head gasket replacement every twenty thousand miles or so.

You must be a sewing machine mechanic. Duramaxes have routinely racked up 200,000+ miles without a teardown. Same goes for many gassers. New head gasket technology eliminates the previous problems encountered with Aluminum/CI engines.

I'm guessing aluminum heads will be the greatest technology advancement in the world for this guy once Cummins starts to use it!
