I've been posting a lot out here lately and i've got one more questions. I recently transplanted my old 91 302 with 165K for an 86 302 with 70K because the engine was going bad on the 91, stuck rings, bad head gasket, the list goes on. Well now that i've got the 86 in there, i wish i had the 91 back...even though the 91 was running poorly i still had more HP and torque than i do with the 86. Better example, when driving down the freeway at 75 in OD the OD will automatically disengage like it doesnt have enough power to cruise at 75 mph, now with my old run down 91 i had no problems cruising at 75 or 80, any one have any ideas as to why this 86 wont cruise in OD very well? I am also only getting 7 mpg with this one and i would have assumed with a solid engine ie...no stuck rings or cracked exhaust manifolds, i would get better than with a run down 91...any help would be great.
Howdy neighbor,
Has the '86 had anything done to it? Are you using the induction system from the '91? Could be the difference in the cams. How's the timing chain?
Greg
Is the timing correct? It sounds sort of like it's not advancing enough. That would cause a lack of power and poor gas mileage. Which computer and sensors are you using, the ones from the 86 or the ones from the 91? Hope this helps.
