I have an 86 F250 6.9L diesel 2wd that I have owned for over 10 years. The other day, I came across an 84 F250 diesel 4WD that does not run. I can buy the truck for cheap, and was curious if I could swap the 4WD parts to my 2WD? Anyone ever tried it? They are both automatic transmission.
You have to change it from coil springs to leaf springs. The front of the 2wd frame needs to be modified to accept the front leaf spring mts. I think its a lot easier to do if you lift the truck.
Or you can take a dana 44 from an F150 that also uses coils. It should bolt right into your 2wd stuff and saves a lot of time and worries. It will give you five lugs, but if I'm not mistaking, you could probably switch your knucles out with your parts truck to get you eight lug again.

f150 5-lug knuckles will not swap out for a 8 lug setup. The f150 44 is too light-duty for the diesel in the f250. The dana 44 HD that came under it stock is considered barely big enough.
The easiest bolt in swap would be to swap engines and bodies. The next easiest would be to modify the front frame rails a little bit for the shackles, and bolt the f250- 4wd unit underneath. You will still have to change trannies though(and driveshafts, etc.)
