Tires rubbing

My 31x10.5 tires rub when i turn real sharp and my turning radius sucks. Is there anyway i could improve this? Different backspacing? Wheel spacers? Coil spring spacer upfront? I ask bc of a few reasons, my turnong radius sucks, my tires rub, and i plan on going with a different wheel to see if i could widen my truck out a bit. My truck has some pretty bad body roll

My tires of the same size also rub on occasion on my 4x2. I have read on here where some are putting Moog #844 coil springs on the front to even out the stance and give more clearance for the larger tires. I am considering this upgrade myself. If you do a search for moog 844, you will find plenty to read.

Whats involved with changing the springs? My dad said something about needing a machine to compress the spring. Thats y i kind of wrotethat option off aling with the f250 springs.

What about turning radius?

By the way the truck is a 4x4 ext cab flareside

Doesn't affect the turning radius, as far as I know. I can't say how difficult it is to change in 4x4, but in my 4x2 it's not that bad. I've actually had my springs out and in several times. In mine I just jack the frame up till the tires are hanging, then remove the tires. Then I remove the lower shock bolt, and remove the upper spring retainer. Then you have to remove the big nut inside the spring at the bottom (kinda tricky depending on the tools you have). Not too difficult if you soak everything in PB Blaster real good. Like I said, I'm not too sure about a 4x4, but shouldn't be that much different.
I have some pictures posted here;

Not in my '85. I haven't seen your '95. But I don't think so.

honestly if the tire is at full drop there should be very minimal pressure on the spring... if you want to be cautios ( i have done myself first time removing springs) is loop a chain around the coil spring and tie it off to something o along the frame or the frame itself.. so long as IF it would happen to kick it will kick OUT so it will catch it if it does

I have a 2" leveling kit in my f-150 with 32X11.5 15 with 10" rims that push the tires out farther. i dont have any rubbing on the radius arms, however the tires still rub on my inner plastic fender. For body roll you could add front and rear sway bar or just new shocks.
Good luck!

That could also be due to the 10" rims.

i have stock 8" rims on my truck with 31 10.5's and mine rub the radius arm on both sides when i turn it full clock to clock. the turning radius is amazing tho. mine is a 88 with a 6' box. when it starts to rub i just turn it back a little and it stops.

I got the same truck as you man ( 95 f150 ext. cab lwb. 4x4) and am running 31" bfg all terrains and have no rubbing issues what so ever and its completly stock with 220k mile so the suspension is pretty worn... theres enough space to run 32s for sure and 33s" if i spaced the front bumper about 1/4"... Replace the front springs with the moogs like stated before and you shouldnt have anymore issues... im surprised your having issues with just 31s

I didn't know 31x10.5 would rub at all on these trucks. I've had 2x trucks with them and never had any rubbing. 32x11.5 now that's another story.

Just to be clear, a lift will not help wit your rubbing problem if your tire is hitting your radius arm. These are attached to the axle and will always be in the same spot in relation to your wheels/tires. You have to get a recessed radius arm to fix this problem.

Also, if you have the axle hanging, the spring should go in and out without any problem, you have relieved 95% of the pressure on the spring and you can get it out (and get the new one it) very easily. If you do this, watch your brake lines, if the axle drops down too far, you can damage the lines. It might be wise to put something under the axle to prevent this, or take the calipers off of the rotor and hang them up in the wheel well somewhere.

f150's run Moog CC818, CC820, CC822 & CC824 springs

f250's run Moog CC820, CC822, CC824, CC844, & CC844S

f350's run Moog CC844 & CC844S only. When people say they put f250/f350 springs in to get a lift on an f150, these are the springs they used.

So the moog springs, depending on which one i get are pretty much replacement springs for the f250s?

Does the cc number tell me anything about how stiff they are? Which one does everyone recommend to use?
