I went to drain my water separator and all that came out was a bunch of nasty brown stuff, kinda looks rusty, and looked like there was some water mixed in with the fuel. Is this algae or just rust?
that is just some sediment from the fuel station that u picked up when pumping fuel. algea looks black and slimey sometimes gray if it hasn't been in the tank long.
Sitting for a while makes that crap too, diesel decomposes into goo like your truck's got the runs...
I realized after a while I was picking up that stuff from a local station that doesn't sell enough diesel to keep it fresh. Filled a brand new heater there and I could see the goo in the bottom of the tank. I buy it at the truck stop now, no sludge since.
