so i tried this in the exhaust forum...and i'm going to try it here too. Has anyone found a way to keep header bolts from loosening up. I was wondering if anyone has tried loctite or anything else.....
Take a good hard look at the Stage 8 system. They are special bolts that you install and then there is a cam shaped washer that fits over the hex head of the bolt and then a snap retainer to secure everything. The cam retainer essentially rests against the side of the header tube and absolutely will not let the bolt loosen. The flat spot on the cam can be ground to allow for an accurate fit to the header tube. They might take a little while to install especially if the engine is already in the truck and they are not cheap (~$40) but you'll never have to worry about loose bolts again.
Stage8 came w/ the Borla headers. Needed one more e-clip. Called them and they sent me more than I needed. I very lightly coated the inside of the the washer with grease to keep it on while installing the e-clip. Almost gotta to be a contortionist to install the washer and e-clip at the same time but only having to use one hand helps.
I've never needed any fancy bolts before, I tignten all the bolts (you can use loctite for extra measure I suppose), and drive for a day. If possible, while still warm retighten. Drive for another day and check again. After a couple days you'll be fine and they'll never back out.
the stage 8 bolts are the only way to go. for one, they are stainless steel so they will not rust or seize in the block, they will never back off, and they use the regular 7/16'' hex head as well as a 5/32'' socket head. this is a big help as you can use a ball end allen wrench to run them up and then use your 7/16'' wrench for final tightening. i love them!
