New guy with electrical problem!

Hi everyone, I've been a fan of this sight for about a year and learned a ton of info about my first PSD. So her we go I have a 04 6.0l PSD 4x4 lariat with 122,000 on the clock. My altn. took a crap on me one day while driving a good distance from home. I battery light came on, lights started to dim and the truck slowly began to loose power as i just limped into my driveway. replaced altn. with a new one and now ever since I cant take my truck over 2500 RPMs or the battery light comes on and the gauges flicker off until I let off the gas, then they click and come back on. It is driving me out of my mind! Thought is was battery's so replaced them both, Same Thing! Had the altn. check said it was fine. Please help.......

Sounds like you just need a higher amp alt.

sounds like a bad alternator. check the connections. could also be issues from crosion on the batterie terminals.

Thanks for the response Cheezit! Did check the battery cables and they have alot of green corrosion where the cable connects to the end. Ill try to clean it up and see if that helps.

That's a bad sign. These are not the most robust cable connectors. You need to keep on top of them or end up replacing the whole cable.

Found the problem! What started off to be a bad morning when I came outside to find a puddle of coolant under my truck. lower rad hose sprung a leak from rubbing on steering box. So while I knew i had get dirty I decided to take my altn off and exchange it. Bingo!!! No more battery light and she runs like a beast again. also went ahead and put a new thermostat, and serpentine since I was right there. Turned out to be a great day, and walked threw every step of the way via this sight! Thanks
