weld?

the 83s shift collar (3 on column) broke the barrel deal on the inside broke off.. common in those older fords. its discontinued and i cant find one in a yard. tried to get a machine shop to make it and they said they dont think they can. their welders gonna try to weld it. would that be a good idea??

If they can weld it, it will be stronger than original.

I'm worried that the metal may be too thin to weld it.

Wouldn't hurt to try it I suppose. It's already broke, etc...
