M5R2 transmission question...
This may or may not be the best place to post this but I'm going to give it a shot. I have a project going that I am trying to adapt an M5R2 with manual transfer case into. You can CLICK HERE to see a full ongoing eight page build thread on this project so as to avoid using a lot of space here.
My problem is that the shifter location on the tranny is too far forward. I thought I had this problem solved when I found another M5R2 in a junkyard in an Explorer Sport with a set back top loaded shifter on it. When I got it home I discovered the bolt pattern was different and it would not fit my tranny.
Because this transmission shifter is top loaded as opposed to having side arms on it I don't have the option of relocating the shifter with extended linkage.
The tranny I have came from an '88 F-150 with a straight 300 six. I am mating it to a 3.8L supercharged V6 from a '90 T-Bird Super Coupe. This engine will mate to any tranny that was on a 300 six, 302 or 351W V8.
Here's the question. Is there any top loaded shifter that is located to the rear that will fit this tranny and if so what should I look for to find it on? I appreciate any help anyone can give on this. As of now my project is at a stand still until I whip this problem.
Later Folks...
