I'm going to purchase a new vehicle within the next three weeks and have the choices narrowed to a new Expedition or Ch#$y Tahoe. Right now I've got a '98 Mercury Mountaineer and a '68 F250 so I'm a little partial to the Fords, even though the Merc has not been a good vehicle at all. However, I've had good luck with other Explorers and a Bronco in the past and pops has a '98 Expedition that he loves. But the new Tahoes, blow the Expeditions out of the water in terms of styling and HP. What I mean by styling is the Expeditions are very dated in my opinion and need to be updated. Is this scheduled for 2002?
In reading prior posts, it appears that many have had significant problems with the Expedition suspensions and steering. Granted, only those with problems post their concerns and these does not necessarily represent the majority. Can anybody give me some convincing reasons to stay with the Ford? And has anyone owned both vehicles that give an unbiased and objective comparison.
Last Thursday I purchased a 1998 Expedition XLT with 4X4 leather, CD and towing package. This one also had the 5.4 Triton V-8. After considering many other SUV including the Tahoe and Durango, I chose the Ford because it just plain -old looked better. To me the Tahoe still reminds me an 87 Blazer. The Ford has more room and a better 4X4 system. Plus value, an equally equipped Tahoe will set you back an additional $3000- $4000.
If you need one more reason, it is because you bleed blue oval blood just like the rest of here. So "drop the idea of buying that chicken dinner" (the Tahoe) and "pick yourself the winner"(the Expedition)
