The brakes have had a leak at the rear driver drum and tonight on the way home the front end was jerking as if the brakes on the driver side in the front were randomly compressing.. something was smoking but i couldnt see where from and then after i got home the lock in hub on the driver side was melted... any idea of what it could be or what i need to do in order to fix this problem????
I'm not good at visualizing, but first worst Guess would be man handle what you can off (-maybe- cut or torch), replace what you can't reuse (junk yard/scrap trucks), fix the leak, and bleed the lines. I'd be curious how much fluid you had left in your master cylinder.
yea that is what i was thinking.. but my thing is.... what do the brakes leaking fluid have anything to do with burning up the 4x4? that makes no since... so there has to be a bigger problem somewhere else
well, im guessing there are two problems, that just happened to show themselfs at once...First, i would remove the front hubs, and inspect for damage. Was one hub left in the LOCK position? If they look burned up or very worn, or if you just want to replace them, prolly go with warn hubs, i have them and they work great, no problems. As for the brakes, if it was the rear, I think it sounds like the rear wheel cylinders. Bet, you need to compleatly dissassemble the rear brakes to change them, so to be safe, i would replace the shoes, self-adjuster, wheel cylinders, and buy a hardware kit with all of the little springs and thingys. As for the drums, get them resurfaced or pick up a set of new ones. Just remember to bleed both sides after this. Also, pick up like 2 cans of brake cleaner and makesure you have enough brake fluid.
Ohh.....As for the front, i think i had the same problem. It was a sticking caliper. I replaced both front calipers and rotors because it warped the rotor that had the sticking caliper. Also replaced the pads. I think my hubs were burned in the center on the dail also, that is why i went with warn hubs.
