Engine ID

Sorry this may not be a ford engine but its in my ford truck!

im having a tough time identifying this
i think it may be a Mopar but im not sure.
ideally im trying to know what repair manual to buy for it.

thank in advance for help

the transmission its a a727b with these numbers 6A162543

the engine is a 4006630-44-9 with these numbers 7-72-75 i think i copied the number wrong if this is a date code it maybe 7-12-75

the header says 440 with a holly carb on top and the valve covers say erson

oil spout is in the way of any other letters.

couple of pictures of the engine of it here (not so good)

Hard to tell withthe pics.....Maybe one of the whole engine compartment with engine.

I think the wire brush is not stock Ford or GM!

I would say Mopar 440. See if the distributor is angled on the front. IIRC, Mopar dist. 318/360 is on the back.

I'd say a 440 big block Mopar with a 727 torqueflight trans.

It is a big block mopar. I say that from building several of them when I worked a speed shop. The oil pan, intake, water pump and valve covers give it away.

I googled 1975 Mopar 440 engine. Mopar casting site selected. It listed your engine as 1975-78 440. Casting number engine left side, partial vin number on engine right side. Another site said only police cars had the 440 in 1975.

thanks for your help guys i ordered my repair manual for the engine.

The steering column is dodge doh!

i really over looked some of the key items on this one. i can see the engine and tranny being over looked because im not familiar with the numbers but the steering column says dodge. ..geeeeeez! im an idiot.

ok im better now.


i tried the choke to see if it was hooked up to the engine .. It was and made all the difference starting it. It kind of sounds better every time i start it.

There may be a turn in the road..

You guys havnt totally ripped on me yet so im thinking this is not the first time youve heard of this happening.

my list grows

one cab (just grind out the rust for now)
one 59 ish ford engine (to make it authentic) next two years of bonus checks pre spent
one matching transmission ( to seal the deal - another nail in the coffin)

Well like i told my wife we need a truck i didnt say it was going to be a new Ford. or.. all Ford

it started at $1500 the rest is just normal maintenance Right!!.

naw we ain't gonna rip ya , more than a few of us here dig the mopars too . and it's not a c--vy !!!!! appears to be a 440 or 400 big block . kinda reminds me of this truck i seen in a really lame made for tv movie i seen when i was a kid where dude got his butt ripped by a custom van , then stuffed a 44o out of a squad car in his old ford truck for some redemption ................... hey i had that movie with the primered hemi powered *****'s book marked here . see ya's later i feel like watching some lame tv car movies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the 440 is in your truck and runs well you might not want to switch to a ford after you drive it. I have a 440 in a old car and makes something a real screamer. The 440 and trans combo are almost bullet proof.

any suggestions on a fix for the steering wheel column kind of stick out with dodge written on there and its a different color. I have to get a picture of it. i

its probably a problem that some manufacture has fixed ill have to go searching

i guess the ford steering column shifter didnt work with the 727 transmission.
