I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer 5.4, I bought this vehicle used but in really good shape. I noticed that it pulled to the right a little bit, and thought it would be a simple alignment issue. About a week after I bought it I took it into Midas and had them do an alignment. after a few weeks I noticed that it was pulling to the right again. My wife drives this vehicle all the time so I rarely get to drive it. I drove it today and it seems to be really bad now ( I can let go of the wheel and it would go around a curve if I let it) I also noticed that both the tires are feathered and are worn on the inside. Could this just have been a bad alignment job or could there be more severe issues (bushings, tie rods etc.) The tires were pretty much brand new and now the front tires are ruined. Thanks for any help or advise.
first mistake, letting midas touch your truck. Don't make that one again. EVER!
it sounds like your camber is off. I haven't aligned one of these in a while but if I remember right they have adjusters on the two wheel drive models. I've worked on a lot of chevies with similar adjusters that we not torqued properly in a previous alignment. Could be the problem. Lots of things can cause bad camber. That's just one. Take it to a Ford dealer next time. Seriously.
I have an 05 with 57k with the tires wearing bad on the inside. Took it into the shop to get it aligned and it ended up being a worn out steering gear. Buddy of mine had the same thing and it was a bad wheel bearing. The quality of these cars are garbage.
Had the same problem after 200k. I had to replace my low a-arm bushings. Raise up your front end off the ground and put a crow bar in between your a-arm and the wheel assembly. You will probably see the play here that is creating your problems. Also look at your top bushings as they go next and as long as you are doing the lowers, do the uppers at the same time. Align and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Why can't Midas touch his truck and yet the dealer can? A shop is as good as the people they hire.
Maybe you had a bad experience at Midas, but that doesn't mean everyone has. I'll bet there are just as many unhappy dealer customers as there are Midas customers, with the biggest difference is the Midas customers still have money in their bank accounts.
